As an events company, every event we cater is special in their own way – we can remember every single one, and who the client was. But there is one that stands out, head and shoulders above the rest – Our Wedding Day!
3 years ago, in the heart of Gloucester, we celebrated with our friends and family at the beautiful Blackfriars Priory. Whilst we considered getting married on the Island, we didn’t want to end up working at the venue we had chosen. We knew all our guests would have to travel, so really we could pick anywhere.
When we first saw Blackfriars Priory, we fell in love. Although had an anxious few weeks wait over Christmas to find out if it was available!
We knew straight away that we’d cater it ourselves, we weren’t interested in a formal sit-down meal with various courses. We wanted our guests to enjoy a variety of foods over several hours, much like a Tudor feast – this is always our go to meal at home, so felt right to enjoy it on our best day ever.
Autumn is our favourite season, so it felt only right that we chose October to celebrate. Of course, the whole day was filled with autumnal touches and colours.
We even went conker picking the week before, when we both had covid (got the all clear 4 days before!). My great aunty grew a huge amount of Chinese lanterns for us, which were scattered throughout the venue, adding beautiful pops of burnt orange
It’s the only time we’ve bought in bread for an event (getting up at 4am to bake bread fresh on his wedding day was one step too far for Alex!), but accompanying the locally baked bread was a selection of Island pulled meats, some delicious goat salami, cheeses, Eat Street chutney, Laurel’s mum’s family famous cheese terrine, Isle of Wight tomatoes, olives and oil & balsamic. It was simply wonderful enjoying the spread, whilst looking out at all our loved ones having such a lovely time. We wanted the wedding breakfast to feel relaxed, not rushed and casual which we feel we nailed!
For dessert, Baked by Jen created us a grazing table of dreams with brownies, blondies and cookie sandwiches. We froze what was left over, so were enjoying them for a good few months afterwards!
There were even doggy bags for our guests to take home, and we took some up to London to enjoy in a hotel the night before we left for our honeymoon (with Moet & Chandon out of tea cups!)
We invested in some beautiful wooden lazy Susans to serve our wedding breakfast, and Alex made some lovely chunky oak wooden boards to compliment. These are now available to hire through Eat Street to display grazing tables, desserts and cheeses on. They look wonderful with any theme!
Always ones to do things a bit differently, I had a jumpsuit (with pockets), instead of a dress, designed and made by my mum. All bridesmaids also had jumpsuits!
Both parents walked me down the aisle, having provided me equally with a huge amount of support and guidance over the years.
One of the only true surprises for everyone was that we had a bagpiper to play me in, and during the reception – a nod to my Scottish heritage. To this day, pipes still make us both emotional
To go along with our autumnal theme, and our values around sustainability, we had a selection of beautiful dried flowers, including my bouquet and Alex’s buttonhole. These are still on display at home
These gorgeous photos were taken by the incredibly talented Paul Williams from Gingerbeard Weddings
It truly was the best day ever (yes, even better than the day Mabel was born!) – and one that we constantly relive through a slideshow of pictures on our TV, dancing in the kitchen to ‘our song’ and watching our guest videos back.
