A whole year of flaky layers, filled centres and crumbs everywhere. This week marks one year of our New York rolls in Cowes, sold exclusively at Carvel Lane Coffee — and we’ve got a couple of birthdays to celebrate.
On 1st October 2025, we launched our New York rolls. Twelve months later, we’re proud to still be making them for Carvel Lane Coffee and grateful to everyone who has made one part of their coffee stop.
Their first birthday feels like the perfect opportunity to celebrate the rolls, the independent coffee shop that gives them a home, and the people who keep coming back for them.
Our New York rolls, your Carvel Lane coffee
If you haven’t tried one yet, think croissant-style pastry shaped into a round spiral, with crisp, flaky layers and a generous filled centre. Best enjoyed with a good coffee and an acceptance that a few crumbs are inevitable.
For ours, that coffee comes from Carvel Lane.
Carvel Lane Coffee in Cowes is the exclusive place to buy Eat Street’s New York rolls. We love that they’re part of a visit there, whether you’re popping in for your usual coffee, catching up with a friend or choosing something to take away.
A good coffee and something delicious to go with it. Sometimes, that’s all a morning needs.
Island grain, Island flour
The local connection starts before our rolls reach the counter. We use flour from IOW Grain, made with grain grown here on the Isle of Wight.
We’re proud to use an Island-grown ingredient in something made by us and sold at another independent Island business. From the grain in the dough to the coffee alongside the finished roll, there’s a lovely local story behind your morning treat.
A year on, and still on the counter
We’re so proud that, a year later, Carvel Lane is still taking our rolls.
As a small business, putting a new product out into the world comes with plenty of excitement and a few nerves. Having another independent business choose to stock it is a big moment. Having them continue to order it, make room for it on their counter and serve it to their customers means even more.
When you make food for someone else’s business, they’re trusting you with part of their customers’ experience. We care about that, and we’re grateful for the continued confidence in what we make.
So, to Carvel Lane: thank you for backing our rolls and continuing to give them a home in Cowes. It means a lot to us.
Happy first birthday, Carvel Lane Coffee
Carvel Lane Coffee recently celebrated its own first business birthday, too, so this feels like a lovely moment to celebrate together.
Opening a business takes courage. Keeping it going takes daily work, care and a lot of energy — much of which customers never see.
As fellow independent business owners on the Isle of Wight, we know how much goes on behind the scenes. Reaching that first birthday deserves a proper celebration, and we’re proud that our rolls have played a small part in Carvel Lane’s first year.
Happy first birthday, Carvel Lane. We’re cheering you on for year two.
Thank you for every coffee-and-roll stop
To everyone who has bought one of our New York rolls, shared a photo, recommended one to a friend or gone back for another: thank you.
Each time you pick up an Eat Street roll with your Carvel Lane coffee, you’re supporting two independent Island businesses. Those everyday choices make a difference to the people behind them.
Much of our work at Eat Street is about bringing people together for special occasions. It’s lovely to be part of the smaller moments in your week, too — a coffee break, a catch-up or a Saturday morning treat.
